Seoul Metropolitan City announced on Dec. 22 that it will initiate testbed projects with a number of startup companies including Telofarm Inc. Among all companies involved Telofarm will be supported with the largest funding, USD0.9M for a year. The goal of this project is to monitor the health states of urban trees and green areas with the plant sensor technologies developed by Telofarm. The innovative plant sensor technologies of Telofarm have shown their efficacy by being able to detect key physiological variables such as sap flow rate and electrical conductivity of a plant with unprecedented accuracy and reliability. Based on the semiconductor manufacturing technology applied first time in the area of plant monitoring systems, the Telofarm technology is highly scalable for massively parallel monitoring of agricultural crops for a long period. This technology has been tested on various crops and plants such as tomato, cucumber, sweet pepper, mango, kiwifruit, cabbage, lettuce, date palm, pine tree, cherry blossom, apple, pear and many other office plants within Korea and several other countries including Japan, New Zealand, and UAE. While the sensor technologies and analyses of the plant data will be provided by the Telofam, Samsung SDS will enable wireless collection of such data and intelligent server service. After the funded test period, Seoul City will support extending the services for top ten global cities.
